2018 Cross-Strait Climate Change Sustainable Energy Forum
 
The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Climate Change and Energy Sustainable Development Research Institute jointly organized, along with the North China Electric Power University hosting the 2018 Cross-Strait Climate Change Sustainable Energy Forum. The event was held on Thursday, September 6, and Friday, September 7, at the Power Valley International Hotel, in Baoding City, Hebei Province, China, with the Opening Ceremonies conducted by both sides of the Forum Board members, and presided over by Executive Director Eugene Chien and the new Chairman, along with Academician Ke-Chang Xie, of the China Academy of Engineering. This year’s Forum theme was “Energy and Power Technology Innovation and Environmental Protection”, uniting 22 Taiwan experts and academics with 97 mainland China industry, government, academic, research and development sector representatives, and 150 university students participating, for in-depth analysis of new trends in alternate energy and environmental protection technology development, all engaged in jointly endeavoring for a beautiful future.

In his remarks, Chairman Eugene Chien of the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy noted that Baoding signifies protecting the metropolis and securing the people’s lives, so after visiting Baoding City, he felt the resolution and practicality of Baoding’s commitment to developing alternate energy, such that it is indeed highly appropriate to refer to today’s Baoding as protecting the environment and securing the climate. Also, Dr. Chien was full of praise for the North China Electric Power University and its promotion of the China mainland efforts for modernization, with renowned alumni across mainland China, and for its important role as a truly irreplaceable institution.

The two day Forum featured seven special reports and four main themes of “High Efficiency Coal Power Transmission Technologies”, “Renewable Energy and Power Consumption”, “Preventing Atmospheric Pollution and Climate Change Preparedness” and “Innovation Development and Energy Efficiency with Carbon Reduction”, for 19 specialized presentations, covering a broad range of topics, with in-depth discussions, ensuring that in respect of the Cross Straits paths to developing renewable energy and countering climate change, clearer goals and direction have been advanced. After the event, next year’s host the Management Institute of Natural Resources and Environment, National Taipei University, was represented by Director Dr. Yuh-Ming Lee, who exchanged gifts with President Yong-Ping Yang, of this year’s host, North China Electric Power University, evincing the Cross Straits academia’s commitment to furthering exchange in the common aspiration of meeting again in Taiwan in the future.
