The use of ivory (a hard creamy-white substance made mainly from the tusks of an elephant) has commenced since the ancient times. Because of its demand, elephants are at the verge of extinction and therefore many countries have enacted laws which prohibit the illegal hunting and trade of elephants. Dr. Eugene Chien, Chairman of the Taiwan Sustainable Energy Research Foundation made a conscious call to the public to not buy and use ivory products, and to contribute to the conservation of the ecology.
