November 12 Besides our Taiwan government pledges, industry must contribute sustainable operations for a better world

2016 was a milestone year for global carbon reduction, with significant impacts on corporate sustainability also, because of the ratification of the Paris Agreement as of November 4, 2016, and its anticipated implementation from 2020.

In 2015 Taiwan's Cabinet, the Executive Yuan, announced our Intended National Determined Contribution (INDC), which not only commit to developing green energy (with a goal of achieving 20% alternative energy electricity generation by 2025), while also working to create a two way grid and Smart grid equipment, and reducing fossil fuel use.

As for Taiwan's enterprises, Taipower has reduced its electricity usage in the past five years by 50%, and continues to announce plans for additional reductions of 30% in the next five years, so if our corporations continue to lead in carbon emission reductions and sustainability, they will not only enjoy more new business opportunities, but can also represent the feasibility of implementation of the entire nation's carbon emission reduction targets.
